Web Development Process

Has website development seemed like a mystery to you? Not quite sure what has been done for your site and not sure where the money has gone? Does your website company tell you what is happening before they provide you with a finished product?

Natton, Inc. follows a structured process when developing web solutions – providing you with a stage-by-stage guide to where your web site is at any time. Whether having a complete web solution from scratch, or having Natton, Inc. make changes to your existing site, Natton, Inc. follows this process each time, ensuring high quality at all stages.

Site Plan And Structure
With you, we will develop a site plan and structure that not only matches how you envision your website, but also matches your industry, your business strategy, and your budget. We include a detailed site map of how your site will be laid out structurally – from the home page to the terms and conditions – and ideal keyword strategies for search engine optimisation, including file naming strategies, optimised content potential, and site structure development.

Site Specifications
After your site plan and structure are identified, we will then provide detailed site specifications. This includes listing any modules used in the site (e-commerce, content management, back-end integration, etc.), indicating any graphic design needed, and providing you with detailed information about what Natton, Inc. can provide.

First Stage Client Approval
At this stage, we ask for you to approve our plan, structure, and specifications for your site. Only when it meets with your approval will we begin to work on it – making sure you get the site you want.

Graphic Design
The Graphic Design team then begins designing the necessary elements of your site. Providing you with three different styles, we create a home page and a secondary page design – plus an e-commerce catalogue page, if necessary. If you require branding, newsletter design, stock photography, or anything else from the Graphic Design team, this is where they come in.

Second Stage Client Approval
With the three different designs in hand, we come to you and ask you to select your new website. If there are any changes you desire, we can go back, make them, and then come back to you with the new design.

Database Development
When we have approval, we begin to develop any necessary database structure needed. If you are having an e-commerce site built, we will work with you to develop a store catalogue that works with your existing systems as well as search engines and users.

While we are integrating your systems with your new website, you can be editing and adding your products to the system, with your descriptions and images.

Site Development
While the database structure is being developed, our Web Developing team is also working hard at your site – taking the graphic design elements that have been approved by you and adapting them to the web. We use XHTML and CSS to build a standardised, adaptable website, with WCAG Priority 1 accessibility level as standard.

Along with built-in accessibility, Natton, Inc. also provides browser compatibility for these browsers as standard:

Internet Explorer 5+ for Windows
Firefox 1+ for Windows and Macintosh
Safari 1+ for Macintosh
We can also include other browsers as necessary – providing full access to your website, no matter what your visitors are using.

Programming Development
Our Programming team will also be working on your website, making sure all back-end integration is as smooth as possible. If you want any of our content management modules included – giving you the ability to change and edit your copy – our Programming team will work with our Web Development team to provide a high quality website that you can control.

And while we are developing your site, we will regularly check with you to make certain it meets with your standards – including testing modules, checking navigation, and generally appreciating the “feel” of the site. This is your website, and we want you to be happy with it.

Content Generation
Whether you are adding existing content, writing your own content, or having us write your website copy for you, Natton, Inc. can provide advice and suggestions for developing the best possible content for your website – providing the ideal keyword optimisation strategy while keeping your style and tone natural and matching with your company identity.

Search Engine Optimisation
SEO plays a part in each stage of our web site development process – from file naming strategies when developing the site structure to key phrase optimisation when writing the content – and, before launch, we apply the finishing touches to the site. Meta tags, including description and keyword tags, are added to each page, and image alt attributes are given the appropriate keyword-optimised content for where they are located. Title tags are informative and optimised, and keyword density is checked to make sure your site is saying the right things – not just to visitors, but also to search engines.

Site Tracking Statistics Software
If you request it, we will add WebTrends site tracking software to each page on your site and set up an account for you. WebTrends is a thorough site tracking system – identifying not only which pages are popular on your site, but also where visitors are coming from, what search terms they are using, and what they are using to view your website.

Quality Assurance
Once the site is completed, we thoroughly and repeatedly test the site – including programming elements, site navigation, and email forms – making sure everything works and that it is the best it can be. A properly working site isn’t just necessary for you – it reflects on us as well.

Final Approval
When we are satisfied with the website, we pass it on to you for your final approval. The site does not go live until you are happy with it. At this stage, we’d also be happy to discuss future developments for the site – including intranet/extranet integration, software development, and site promotion possibilities such as pay-per-click advertising.

Launch
When you are satisfied with the website, we launch it. We will monitor the website for several weeks afterwards, making certain the site meets the standards we require and you deserve, including checking its placement in search engines, regularly reviewing any purchases or contact details passed through to your systems, and how your site performs in different browsers and systems.
